Winter Skincare: Some effective home treatments to relieve dry skin.

That feeling of dryness in your skin is the first sign that winter has come. As the weather changes, our skin becomes rough, scaly and itchy. It is very important to be careful with your skin especially in winter. Without a proper skincare routine you may have them burning, cracked, itching and redness. Climate change, dehydration, inappropriate dressing styles and lack of winter protection are other contributing factors of such symptoms. Moreover, individuals with Vata dosha and those with aggravated Vata dosha will experience excessive skin redness as well. I will talk about various home remedies today that help moisturize and cure dry skins.

Body Mist

Body Mist: A quick fix for making sure you remain moisturized all day long when you have dry skin

Ingredients:

    4/5 Hibiscus Flowers

    1 tsp Rose Water

Preparation: Boil hibiscus flowers in 1 glass of water for 10 minutes then cool and strain it.Mix with rose water and fill into a spray bottle.

Usage: Spray every 2-3 hours or whenever your skin feels dry. Always carry this liquid in a spray bottle.

Basil(Tulsi) and Honey

 basil contains essential oils that deeply nourish the skin; honey has anti-inflammatory properties that help treat dryness.

Ingredients:
    10g Tulsi Leaves

    1 teaspoon Honey

    Half a Glass of Water

Preparation:

Grind the tulsi leaves with some water to form a paste. Apply this paste all over the body after adding honey to it. Rinse off after 15 minutes using lukewarm water. 

Milk cream and Lentil paste

Facial skins are more sensitive than those on the body thus need extra care .

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon Milk Cream

1.5 teaspoons Powdered Lentil

Preparation:

Mix milk cream and powdered lentil until it forms a thick paste.

Apply evenly on the face.

Rinse off after 15 minutes for soft and silky skin.

It can also be applied directly to lips to prevent winter chapping.

Jojoba Oil: It is good for both dry and combination skin as it moisturizes and balances natural oils of the skin.

Usage: Apply Jojoba oil all over the body after bath. It treats dryness, flakiness, redness, itching etc. Other amazing oils for dry skin include coconut oil, almond oil, argan oil

Avoid Long Showers in Winter

Long Showers : Hot water tends to remove your skin’s natural oil making it dry and harsh.

Bathing :

Use lukewarm water for a quick shower.

Limit shower time to 5-7 minutes.

Avoid harsh soaps that make your skin instantly lose moisture. Glycerin based soap may be used if needed.

Hydration : At least eight glasses of water should be taken daily so as to keep hydrated.Other fluids like fresh juices made from fruits like oranges, milk, buttermilk, and coconut water are equally beneficial.

Nutrition : Include Omega-3 fatty acids along with antioxidant rich foods like fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet plan too here to ensure proper nourishment of your skin cells.

Gloves And Shawls:
Put gloves , shawls or pullovers on covering up the exposed areas including hands and neck when going out in windy weather or during winter seasons .

Fresh Fruits And Vegetables: Eating green leafy vegetables ,fruits keeps our skin healthy enough .


Natural Oils: Use coconut oil, almond oil or argan oil if you have dry skins.
